Buenos Aires: Memory in Presence – Memorial Sites as Providers of Empowering Education

For this Lab, Global Diplomacy Lab (GDL) members Banu Pekol and Julie August worked together with the ESMA Memory Museum in Buenos Aires and the International Holocaust Remembrance Association to develop a training course for specialist audiences in societies traumatised by social conflict, war, dictatorship, colonialism, slavery, racism, as well as pandemics. These phenomena provide a breeding ground for extremist attitudes, so it is crucial to focus on building a resilient society that is capable of dealing with past traumatic experiences.

Lie Detectors – Gastbeitrag über meinen Schulbesuch in Rostock

Eindrücke meines Besuches im Rahmen meiner Tätigkeit als Expertin für “Lie Detectors” am Musikgymnasium in Rostock

“Am Donnerstag, dem 02.03.23, nahm die Klasse 6m1 an einer Onlinekonferenz mit der derzeit in Argentinien lebenden Journalistin Julia Jaroschewski teil und wurde in dieser für Fake News im Internet und die richtige Nutzung unterschiedlicher Messenger Dienste sensibilisiert. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler hatten im Rahmen der Konferenz u.a. die Aufgabe, selbstständig als Nachrichtendetektive tätig zu werden und Fake News als solche zu entlarve. Die dafür nötigen Tools gab ihnen Frau Jaroschewski an die Hand.”

School of Conflict and Peace – Training for Journalists

The School of Conflict and Peace provides an intensive training for reporting on conflict, crisis & crime. It is hosted by the think tank BuzzingCities Lab and wants to equip journalists for difficult assignments, help them minimize their security risks through better
preparation, and discuss challenges and approaches for ethically appropriate and high-quality storytelling in the context of conflict and violence.
